085 – The Sound of “Dreaming of a Jewish Christmas”

In this episode Timothy and RenĂ© sit down with the sound team behind the new Emmy nominated documentary “Dreaming of a Jewish Christmas”.  The film tells the story of how Jewish songwriters are responsible for so many of the best-loved Christmas tunes.  Set in a Chinese restaurant on Christmas Day, the tale unfolds using a combination of musical performance, interviews and archival footage.  Joining us for the interview are the film’s producer Liam Romalis, re-recording engineer Richard Spence-Thomas, location recordist Gary Vaughan and Music Supervisor Aaron Davis.

Bios:

Liam Romalis is a veteran producer in the world of performing arts and culture productions. His work has aired on television screens, online and at film festivals around the world.

Richard Spence-Thomas is a re-recording engineer based in Toronto. He owns Spence-Thomas Audio Post, a studio that has been in business for over 40 years and was started by his father Patrick. Starting out loading reels onto dubbers as a child he quite literally grew up in Audio Post production. Richard has won awards for mixing animated series, documentaries, and reality shows.

Gary Vaughn is a location recordist, sound editor and whatever else you need!  He has worked on seemingly countless films and TV series over the years and to his own admission a lot of them didn’t stink.  Gary works out of Up is Loud Studios.

Aaron Davis is a prolithic live performer, music director and composer for film.    He has been responsible for over 100 film scores over his career so far.
