100th Episode Giveaway Wrap up/Our Listeners are the BEST!

René, Teresa and I (Timothy) wanted to send out a big THANK YOU to everyone who entered our 100th Episode Giveaway.  We had so many people include amazing notes with their entry emails – it is mind blowing.  So many great suggestions for future episodes that it will take us another 200 episodes to get through all the smart and interesting ideas our listeners sent in.  We will get working on them right away, along with our own concepts that are already in progress.

We also learned which episodes have connected with people the most. Almost every episode we have done was referenced by someone, but there were a few that really popped out.  Our Impostor Syndrome episode, and interviews with Dave Whitehead, Mark Mangini, Erik Aadahl/Ethan Van der Ryn, Oliver Machin (Fury Road vehicle recordist) and Sylvain Bellemare & Bernard Gariépy Strobl (Arrival) all got lots of love.  I am sure recency bias is in play a bit, but we were overwhelmed with people telling us that Gary Bourgeois’ episode breaking down his mix template was really impactful for them.  We would love to do more “Template Talk” episodes in the future.  If you know of anyone that would be interested in sharing their mix or edit template please let us know!  Nia Hansen and Paula Fairfield’s talk about working on VFX-heavy projects was also mentioned by many. Roundtable episodes in general continue to resonate. Dialog Editing, Recording Dangerous Subjects, Selling Sound Effects,  Vehicle Recording, Field Recording in South Africa and Weapons all were popular. We have a bunch more in the works, so stay tuned!

George Vlad setting up to record ambiences in remote Limpopo, South Africa. He and Daan Hendricks told us all about their trip in episode 63.

The giveaway is over now.  The winners have been contacted.  If you have not heard from us by now, we wish you better luck next time.  Congrats to all the winners including Benjamin Gale who won the Odyssey Collection: Essentials SFX Library from Pro Sound Effects. Special Thanks to PSE, Sound Radix and iZotope for donating the prizes.   All three of those companies reached out to ask how they can support us because they are fans of Tonebenders.  It means a lot to us that they listen and wanted to help.

Finally we loved getting to know our listeners better.  We received so many emails that we can’t respond to them all individually.  We want everyone to know that we read them all and were really moved by a lot of them.  There were some amazing stories of how our little podcast has infulenced people’s lives and career paths.  How cool is that?  We can’t express how grateful we are that listeners took the time to write down these stories and share them with us.  Hits us right in the feels…

We will not be monitoring the enter at tonebenerspodcast email account any longer.  If you want to reach us with ideas, stories or comments, write to [email protected].

Thanks again to everyone for listening to Tonebenders.  We are amazed at how many people have stuck with us all these years and we don’t take it for granted.

Onwards and upwards.

The Tonebenders.

Oliver Machin told us all about how he recorded the sounds of the real bizarre vehicles used on set for Mad Max: Fury Road in Episode 34.

Is there any chance you’ll have OhmLab on as a guest any time soon? Every interview I’ve heard with him has been really eye-opening, inspiring and worth listening to again. I can’t remember his real name, but he runs a few popular companies and was the creative mind behind some of the best online communities. I’d love to hear more from him, but not sure how to go about finding it. Some people just like anonymity online I guess. 🙂

Thanks again for everything you do! Everyone here in the studio LOVES your show! <3
