240 – Ferrari

Michael Mann’s new film “Ferrari”, is a personal drama at heart, but we all know that it is the CARS that will draw people to see this one. Fortunately those cars sound amazing and we have the sound team with us, to talk about how they created and designed those sounds. Production sound mixer Lee Orloff, Supervising Sound Editors Tony Lamberti & Bernard Weiser, and Re-recording mixer Andy Nelson tell us about how they recorded the antique cars, how they differentiated the sounds for each vehicle in the races and lots more. This is a spoiler free conversation.

  1. I just listens to ep 240 about the Ferrari movie and was excited to hear about Nick Mason having lent a car. For anyone interested in cars and audio it’s worth checking out a documentary that the Pink Floyd did about La Carrera Panamericana in Mexico. It’s amazing because you have all of this general and specific storytelling about the teams and the race and problems that happen, with video of 50s cars and all of that great engine noise, but also mixed in with Pink Floyd music! It never made it do dvd or streaming, I’ve got a VHS copy and I saw it was on YouTube at one point.
